One dumbbell, three ceilings. Every size carries the same handle, the same 1.5 kg increments and the same finish. The only question is where you want the range to stop.

    § 06 · WHY IT IS QUIET

    THREE THINGS,
    ALL OF THEM FIT.

    Noise in an adjustable dumbbell is movement: a plate with somewhere to go will find it, every rep. The Black Edition is built to take that space away.

      Rigid metal plates seat on nylon precision fit interfaces, so there is less play between them in the hand.

    2. 02

      The coat plays a small part too: coated plate against coated plate is softer than bare metal on bare metal. The fit matters more.

    3. 03

      Each dumbbell lands in its own storage base, so the end of a set is a set down and not a drop.

    What is the difference between the Black Edition and the Chrome Edition?

    The finish and the fit. The Black Edition wears a thicker, super durable coating rather than a plated shell, and it holds off the condensation a cold room leaves on bare metal. Its rigid metal plates also seat on nylon precision fit interfaces, so there is less play between them and less noise with it. The Chrome Edition pairs on sale at the moment are Generation 5, discounted while that stock is cleared ahead of Generation 6. Both are Stealth dumbbells with the same 1.5 kg increments and the same 34 mm grip. If a quiet, matt set is what you want, this is the one.

    Do the Chrome Edition upgrade packages fit the Black Edition?

    No. The Heavy and Heaviest upgrade packages are made for the Chrome Edition and do not fit the Black Edition, the Core Edition or any other brand. If you are unsure which pair you own, send us a photograph using the form below and we will confirm before you order anything.

    Can I move up a size later?

    Not with an upgrade package: the Black Edition is sold as a complete pair at each size, and there is no add-on kit for this line. What we do run is Trade Up, where you send us what you own and put its value towards the larger pair. If you already know you will want 41.5 kg eventually, buying it outright is the cheaper route and we would rather say so.

    How much space does a pair need?

    At 41.5 kg, each dumbbell sits in its base in 50 by 23.5 by 21.5 cm, so a pair side by side wants roughly half a metre of floor. Out of the base the dumbbell is 44 cm long and 19.5 cm across. The smaller sizes are shorter; if the exact figure matters for a shelf or a cupboard, email us before you order and we will measure the one you are looking at.

    Are they really quieter?

    Yes, and it is mostly the fit rather than the finish: plates that sit tight on their interfaces have less room to move and less to rattle against. The coat helps a little. They are still 41.5 kg of metal: set on a hard floor above a bedroom they will still be heard. A mat and a storage base do more for that than any finish can.

    What happens if I damage a plate?

    They are built to last but they are not built to be dropped, and dropping them is at your own risk. Every part is sold separately, so a single damaged plate or base is a replacement part rather than a new pair. See the Black Edition parts list.
