Stealth vs BrainGain Adjustable Dumbbells: UK Comparison
Stealth is the stronger overall choice for most UK buyers, with current options from 2kg to 41.5kg, finer 1.5kg progression, a Chrome upgrade path and model-specific repair support. BrainGain’s current UK range covers 2.5kg to 40kg across separate fixed-capacity products.

For most UK buyers, Stealth is the better overall adjustable dumbbell system. BrainGain offers credible fixed-capacity products, including a 2.5kg to 24kg Evo and two 5kg to 40kg models. The Stealth adjustable dumbbell range currently spans 2kg to 41.5kg, provides finer 1.5kg progression through Chrome and Black, includes an official Chrome upgrade route and is supported by model-specific parts, repairs and a UK team in Cumbria.

The forthcoming Stealth Block is planned to extend the range to 60kg per dumbbell while adding substantially greater impact resistance. It is not yet a current purchasing option, but it gives the Stealth range a much higher future ceiling.

BrainGain remains a reasonable choice if one of its fixed 24kg or 40kg configurations matches your exact requirements. Stealth is the stronger choice if you want more capacity options, smaller progression steps and a clearer route for upgrading and maintaining the equipment over time.

Which brand offers the better weight range?

Stealth offers the better overall range. Its current products cover 2kg to 41.5kg per dumbbell, compared with BrainGain UK’s current 2.5kg to 40kg range across separate products.

BrainGain’s 24kg Evo starts at 2.5kg and provides 15 settings. Its 40kg Original and 40kg Evo both start at 5kg and provide 17 settings. The 40kg range is useful for pressing, rowing, squatting and many arm exercises, but the 5kg minimum is less suitable for lighter shoulder, rehabilitation-style or shared-household training.

Stealth Core begins at 2kg and continues to 40kg in consistent 2kg increments. It starts 3kg lighter than the BrainGain 40kg models while reaching the same maximum weight. It also provides 20 settings rather than 17.

Stealth Chrome and Stealth Black reach 41.5kg per dumbbell. Their 1.5kg progression provides 26 settings at full capacity, giving stronger lifters a higher current ceiling and every user more closely spaced weight choices.

The forthcoming Stealth Block is planned to reach 60kg per dumbbell. This will extend the Stealth range beyond the capacity of the current conventional-format products, although final specifications and availability must be confirmed at launch.

Which provides better weight progression?

BrainGain’s two current 40kg models use the following 17 settings: 5kg, 7kg, 9kg, 11kg, 13kg, 15kg, 18kg, 20kg, 22kg, 25kg, 27kg, 29kg, 32kg, 34kg, 36kg, 38kg and 40kg. Most jumps are 2kg, with three 3kg jumps.

Stealth Core uses consistent 2kg steps from 2kg to 40kg. Chrome and Black use smaller 1.5kg increments from 4kg to their selected maximum.

The smaller Chrome and Black jumps matter most for exercises where a 2kg or 3kg increase per hand represents a substantial percentage change. This includes lateral raises, curls, triceps work, shoulder pressing and higher-repetition accessory exercises.

At the heavy end, Stealth Chrome and Black provide 26 settings to 41.5kg. BrainGain provides 17 settings to 40kg. The Stealth systems therefore offer both finer progression and a slightly higher maximum.

Which is faster to adjust?

Every current model in this comparison removes the need to load loose plates manually. The dumbbell must be seated correctly in its base or tray before the weight is changed.

Stealth Core, Chrome and Black use handle-based selection. Turn the handle to the required setting, lift the dumbbell and the selected plates leave the base with it.

BrainGain’s 40kg Original uses end dials. BrainGain’s 24kg Evo and 40kg Evo use handle-based selection, with the 40kg Evo requiring the handle to be pushed down and twisted.

The Original therefore uses a different control layout from Stealth. The Evo is more directly comparable. Both BrainGain and Stealth describe their systems as changing weight in seconds, so a universal speed winner cannot be claimed without a controlled timed test.

Selection speed is not the strongest reason to choose Stealth. The clearer advantages are the available weight ranges, 1.5kg progression, Chrome upgrade route and long-term service system.

Which system can be upgraded?

Stealth Chrome has the clear advantage for staged capacity upgrades in the UK range compared here.

Start with Chrome Gen 6 at 23.5kg per dumbbell. The 23.5kg to 32.5kg upgrade package adds six settings. The later 32.5kg to 41.5kg upgrade package adds another six.

The same handles can therefore progress from 14 settings at 23.5kg to 20 settings at 32.5kg and 26 settings at 41.5kg. Each official upgrade package supplies the additional rigid chrome plates and adjustable bases required for the expanded capacity.

BrainGain’s current UK 24kg, 40kg Original and 40kg Evo pages present them as separate complete-capacity products. They do not state a route for converting the 24kg pair into either 40kg model or expanding a 40kg model beyond 40kg.

Stealth Core and Black are also complete-capacity systems. Black is sold as separate 23.5kg, 32.5kg and 41.5kg models. The Chrome route is the relevant choice when you specifically want to add capacity later without replacing the original handles.

Which offers better repairability and support?

Both companies provide replacement support, but the depth and purchasing route are different. BrainGain’s current UK FAQ specifically lists spare handles, bases and plates. These are not presented as individual online purchases. Customers must contact BrainGain to request them. The public FAQ checked does not list smaller internal or wear components, and BrainGain’s current product pages state a 24-month warranty.

Stealth provides the more visible and structured ownership route. Assassin Goods operates a repair service, maintains a dedicated genuine replacement parts and support page and applies a specific route to each model:

  1. Black Edition: replacement parts are available directly through the store, including small individual components and replaceable plate inserts.
  2. Core Edition: component-level replacement parts are supplied by contacting Stealth Support.
  3. Chrome Edition: replacement parts are available directly through the store, with compatibility guidance and repairs available through Stealth Support.

Stealth adjustable dumbbells include a 24-month parts warranty. An optional lifetime warranty upgrade is available subject to its terms. Customers can also speak directly to the UK support team in Cumbria.

The distinction is therefore not that one company has parts and the other does not. BrainGain publicly lists three large replacement assemblies, available only by request. Stealth adjustable dumbbells are designed to be fully repairable at component level, with smaller internal and wear parts available through the appropriate model route. Stealth also combines those parts with a repair service, direct online purchasing for Chrome and Black Edition components, model-specific guidance, optional lifetime cover and a defined UK ownership system.

Construction and training feel

BrainGain states that its 40kg Evo uses steel plates, a knurled handle, an integrated safety lock and a steel base tray. The 40kg Original uses end dials, a solid metal grip and heavy-duty plates. Both are credible fixed-capacity designs.

Stealth Chrome Gen 6 uses rigid chrome all-metal weight plates and a 34mm knurled chrome handle. Generation 6 also has an optimised internal selector mechanism and adjustable bases. It is the Stealth choice for someone who wants exposed metal plates and staged expansion.

Stealth Black Edition uses machined steel weight plates, a 34mm knurled handle and the tightest manufacturing tolerances in the Stealth range. Its plates use replaceable precision-fit inserts. If an insert wears or becomes damaged, the insert is designed to be replaced separately so the complete weight plate does not normally need to be replaced.

Stealth Core Edition focuses on useful range and value. Its 2kg to 40kg capacity makes it the most direct Stealth alternative to the BrainGain 40kg products for someone who also needs a low starting weight.

What about dropping adjustable dumbbells?

BrainGain’s UK FAQ states that its current adjustable dumbbells should be laid down gently and should not be dropped or thrown down.

Stealth Core, Chrome and Black are also conventional selector dumbbells and should be placed down under control. Their advantage is serviceability, not a claim that normal use guidance can be ignored.

The forthcoming Stealth Block is the product being developed to address the impact-resistance limitation. Its block-shaped construction uses magnetic selector pins and is designed to survive a full-weight drop from more than one metre. Production-facility testing has reached drops from up to two metres, and the design has also undergone independent drop testing.

The Stealth Block remains forthcoming. Final specifications, test conditions and availability should be confirmed at launch, and the test results should not be applied to Stealth’s current conventional selector models.

Final verdict: Stealth or BrainGain?

Stealth is the better overall choice for most UK buyers. BrainGain’s current products are credible fixed-capacity systems, and its public FAQ confirms that handles, bases and plates can be requested. These are the only replacement items named publicly, and customers must contact BrainGain rather than selecting smaller components from an online parts route.

Stealth provides more reasons to choose it for long-term home training. Its current range starts lighter at 2kg, reaches higher at 41.5kg and offers finer 1.5kg progression through Chrome and Black. Chrome can be expanded through official packages. The systems are fully repairable with replacement components available down to small individual parts through the correct model route. Chrome and Black Edition parts can be purchased directly, while Black Edition’s replaceable plate inserts are designed to prevent an entire plate needing replacement when only the insert is worn or damaged. The wider range is backed by repairs, optional lifetime cover and a Cumbria-based support team.

The forthcoming Stealth Block will extend that advantage to a planned 60kg per dumbbell with greater impact resistance. BrainGain provides capable products. Stealth provides the stronger adjustable-dumbbell system.
